The goals of MERLOT are to organize, evaluate and create learning activities that complement the vast, though frequently chaotic, higher education resources on the internet.

MERLOT’s mission is to improve the effectiveness of teaching and learning by expanding the quantity and quality of peer-reviewed online learning materials that can be easily incorporated into faculty designed courses.
MERLOT stands for "Multimedia Educational Resource for Learning and On-Line Teaching".
