The letter below was used to inform HVCC faculty about this semester's Phone Contact procedures to enhance retention in onine courses: 

Dear Faculty Colleagues,

Hudson Valley Community College is committed to providing timely intervention to students so that they may increase their chances of academic success.

As you are aware, it is essential for students in an online course to begin working on assignments from the first week of classes.  The Student Outreach and Support Call Center will call students who have not logged in to their courses at the end of the first week of classes.  The Call Center team members will remind them of the importance of starting the work for the course immediately and offer them assistance if they are having technical problems.  This semester, these calls will be completed the evenings of Tuesday, Jan. 24 through Thursday, Jan. 26.

In a change from last semester and with some new programming by Computer Services, my office is now able to generate a list of students who have not logged in to their online courses.  We will make calls from this list.  However, if you have concerns regarding a student who has logged in but has not completed assignments, we will call the student at your request.  Please email the name of the student, his/her “H00” number, and the course and section number to mcneehke@hvcc.edu.  Place “Distance Learning Calls” in the subject line of your email and send your request by 3:00 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 26.
