Fredonia Team Hosted CIT in May

 


SUNY Fredonia hosted the15th annual Conference on Instructional Technology which was held on May 30-June 2. The event was sponsored by the FACT committee and was a great success. Participates came from all over New York State. If you were unable to attend, mark your calendar now for CIT 2007 in Plattsburgh from May 29 to June 1, 2007. >>UPDATE:Geneseo
Conference on Teachning and Learning

 

Hosted by Geneseo's Teaching and Learning Center, this regional event drew participation from well beyond New York State and featured natiionally known speakers in Teaching and Learning such as Craig Nelson of Indiana University,  Gerard Aloisio of Minnesota State, and Darby Lewes with her famous presentation partner Gwynedd T. Dog.  The four days of workshops, posters, concurrent presentations and panels made this a significant teaching learning event for faculty from many public and private schools in the area.  Becky Glass and her team of organizers and undergraduate students made fitting nearly 90 presenters into the Geneseo Library and nearby rooms for all those meetings look easy (almost)!  Look out, Lily, the Geneseo conference may soon give you a run for your money.

COCID on Computing in Agriculture

 

The Cobbleskill COCID met on a rainy Saturday, April 22, so a number of local high school ag instructors joined the SUNY participants for the events.  Guest speakers and local presenters discussed various ways of using computers to teach agriculture courses, both online and in computer enhanced courses.  Local host, Zhongchun Jiang, presided over a day rich with teaching ideas. Special guest Ken Mudge, from Cornell described a technique he's developed for guiding online students through a lab-at-home experience by sending simple materials to them by mail, and Al Turgeon, of Penn State shared his extensive  turf-management teaching materials that have recently been added to the MERLOT collection.

COCID explores both campus and industry views of e-portfolios

 

An E-Portfolio focus characterized the COCID  hosted at Brockport  on April 21.  The day was organized around several panels hosted by Michael Feldstein, Assistant Director of Blended Learning at SLN.  Panelists included Ali Jafari from IUPUI, John Ittelson from Cal State, Glenn Johnson from Penn State as well as industry representatives from BlueTie Inc., Bausch and Lomb, Angel Learning, and Rochester's Little Theatre Film Society.  Panelists from SUNY campuses included Eric Feinblatt from FIT,and Mary Hallett from Monroe CC. If you weren't there along with the nice crowd from across SUNY, you missed a chance to win an IPod Shuffle as a door prize and a great lunch.

FIT "Ahah" conference  focuses on teaching creativity

 

This meeting co sponsored by FIT and the SUNY Conversations in the Disciplines Program brought together faculty and students from across the state on March 31 to focus on ways to enhance creativity in the classroom.  Guests from Buffalo State's International Center for Studies in Creativity and a representative from Ideafusion demonstrated their latest research and the teaching practices that are inspired by their studies.  Afternoon concurrent sessions discussed classroom approaches to creativity from English, Business, Science and the Visual and Performing arts.  Workshops, a creativity fair, and a tour of FIT's current fashion museum exhibit added excitement to the day organized by Amy Lemmon and Desiree Koslin of FIT.

 

 

>>UPDATE: Oswego
Hybrid course COCID draws a surprising crowd

  Oswego's March 24 COCID on Hybrid courses was moved into the campus center when a much larger crowd than was predicted signed up to participate.  Lively discussions by guests Jay Caufleid of MarquetteUniversityand Charles Dzuiban of the University of Central Florida highlighted the program organized by Bill Bosch. Other panel members from Monroe CC, RIT, and Oswego added a local dimension to the discussions. Participants at this COCID remarked that both the topic and the guests (Dzuiban is an Oswego alumnus) contributed to the excellent attendance and the day's rich conversations.
